There’s something I need to say about this, Thundercats is a classic, and I truly believe when people say “Never Mess With A Classic”, it just doesn’t work, if it’s in movies, cartoons, music, anything.. It doesn’t work, yes people will watch this, yes it will bring the creators Millions and Millions of dollars, but money isn’t everything.. When I hear the name Thundercats, i can’t stop myself of thinking about the good old days, when things were simpler, and much more beautiful than now. Thundercats, the logo, the characters, the worlds, everything related to that show from action figures, to coloring books, posters, and endless video tapes at home, all of that reminds all the kids of the 80′s that cartoons back then really meant something.
Unfortunately, no one can stop the machine, and if the machine ordered a remake, then a remake must be done, and that’s what they did not only to that Classic, but to dozens more, trying to revive the glory of these shows, but this time, not the show itself, but the money it will bring, crushing all our childhood memories, and all the things we love, to give the kids of this generation a weaker, less meaningful, and stupider version of what was great.
I’m not saying that just because I’m angry, if you listen to the words of producer Michael Jelenic, you’ll understand what I’m trying to say:
“One thing is that I tried to simplify the mythology a little bit,” he added “It’s a pretty complicated backstory that borrows from a lot of other sci-fi stuff, like ‘Superman’ and ‘Star Wars.’ In developing this, I wanted it to be a little more simple. In the other version, there’s something like three different planets involved, and they all converge onto one planet, and nobody’s really connected. I just wanted to bring that all together.”.
So basically, he took a great story, a story that wasn’t complicated, as much as it was well written and created, to make a simple one, that has no meaning, he just brought the cats back, and they don’t even look closely like the originals, they look less powerful, and less convincing, and I’m judging from one picture, and yes one picture is more than enough to let me Judge.
Michael talked about the characters, and he tried to convince us that yes they are different, but we’re going to love them, something that I really find it hard to believe, here’s what he said:
“I think when people see the final character designs, people will think it’s a different take, but it will feel very familiar to the old series,the colors aren’t quite as bright as they were. It’s a little darker take, but you’ll recognize everybody.”
There’s nothing we can do to stop this, all we have to do is just watch a Classic being destroyed…
I know I’m only talking about a cartoon show, and some of you might think that I’m over reacting, but if you are 27 years old or older, search for the original show, watch a few episodes , and then tell me if you want anybody to mess with your memories as well…
